The festival

A giant walked out of the sea, and left a festival behind

Konstantinos Fragkoulis — a director and screenwriter from Samos — once dreamed of the Samotherium, the long-necked ancestor of the giraffe that really did roam this island millions of years ago. In the dream it returned from the water and called out across the sea. He named an association after it, and from that association came a festival.

Five editions on, it remains a free-entry gathering for short films and documentaries. No red carpet, no industry noise — a screen in the dark, the sound of the water, and an audience that stays to talk long after the last frame.

Fifth edition · 300 in the audience · 8 films selected · 2 awards presented
